Pan's LabyrinthA fairy tale for the new millennium.
Spoiler Alert.
Ophelia, a highly delusional young girl, is traveling with her mother in Northern Spain. When she encounters an insect much bigger than any insect should be allowed to be, she decides it's a fairy! Like I said... delusional. But what the hell, this is a fantasy movie, let's play along....
The "fairy" leads Ophelia to a gritty cave in the middle of a labyrinth (this explain the second half of the title, I'm still trying to figure out who Pan is). There she meets a shabby-looking faun who says she might be the long lost princess of a magical realm. Ophelia, like any little girl, would love to be a princess, but first she must undergo three tests to determine if she's mortal or not. Three tests? I can determine if someone is mortal with just one test. But I guess most people wouldn't volunteer for it.
Ophelia fumbles her way through the tests and ends up a princess. Happy ending.
Well... first she had to die, only then does she become the princess of a dark, cold, wet, underground world. Not to mention that her mother died giving birth to her half-brother who will now be raised by communist guerilla fighters since they murdered his ruthless egotistical fascist father.
But other than that... happy ending. January 16 Movie: The Good ShepherdWhat did I think of this movie? If I told you, I'd have to kill you. |
